St Mary’s school currently offers Mandarin for students in Years T-6.

Classes are 40 minutes in duration for students in Years T-6.

Mandarin lessons are based on the Australian Curriculum Languages learning area of Chinese. This learning area emphasizes a holistic approach to language learning, focusing not only on linguistic proficiency but also on cultural understanding and intercultural competence. Students will engage in a variety of activities designed to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Mandarin. They will also explore Chinese culture, traditions, history, and contemporary society to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Chinese-speaking world.

In Mandarin lessons, students are encouraged to apply their language skills in real-life scenarios. This comprehensive approach aims to equip students with the tools needed to become confident and culturally aware global citizens.
